About
I hold a Master degree in Communication Sciences (Ghent University) and in Sociology (University of Leuven). After graduating, I started working at the University of Antwerp on a project on e-government, funded by IBBT. In March 2007, I moved back to Ghent University as research and teaching assistant in the Department of Communication Sciences. I support lectures on Media Sociology (Ba/Ma), International Communication (Ba), and I also teach a seminar (Ba) and give guest lectures on qualitative methods (Ba) and mediatization (Ba). I’m a member of the Department’s Program Committee and the Faculty’s Quality Cell Education (KCO).
I'm YECREA-representative of the TWG Mediatization (ECREA) and YECREA country representative.
As a PhD-student, my main research interests centre on the role of media in society and culture, and specifically on the processes of celebritization and mediatization. Both theoretically and empirically, I study the different interrelated modes of the celebritization of the public sphere, for which I draw especially on Bourdieu’s field theory, practice theory, celebrity studies, mediatization studies, and both quantitative and qualitative methods. This PhD-research is supervised by prof. dr. Hans Verstraeten.
